Park City rentals — when the ski week outgrows a resort hotel
Where a Deer Valley ski-in condo beats a room at the Montage, and where the historic Main Street houses beat both.
Park City has two ski resorts (Deer Valley and Park City Mountain, the second-largest ski resort in the US after neighbor Big Sky), a preserved 1880s silver-mining Main Street, and roughly 8,000 permanent residents. The hotel supply is either five-star or forgettable — there is not much middle. Vrbo is where the middle lives.
The right neighborhood depends on the trip. Deer Valley slopeside if the mountain matters most and the group has the budget. Old Town Park City if walking to dinner matters more than skiing in. Canyons Village if it's a family ski week where 3-bedroom + kitchen + shuttle to the lift is the whole point.

Frequently asked
Is Park City better than Deer Valley for a family?
It depends on the age of the kids and the price ceiling. Deer Valley is the more manicured, easier-to-navigate resort — no snowboards, unlimited grooming, quieter runs — and it's the classic family-with-money choice. Park City Mountain is bigger, cheaper on the Epic Pass, and better for a family with mixed abilities that includes teenage snowboarders.
How does Park City compare to Aspen for a rental ski week?
Park City is 35 minutes from SLC airport, Aspen is 3.5 hours from Denver (or a small propeller flight into ASE that gets canceled in bad weather). Both have similar ski quality. Aspen has richer restaurants and a more famous scene; Park City has better logistics and lower rental costs — a comparable ski-in condo runs 25-40% less than Aspen.
When should I book Park City rentals?
Christmas week and President's week fill 8-10 months out for anything ski-in at Deer Valley or Empire Pass. Sundance Film Festival (late January) tightens Old Town rentals a year out. Mid-January and early April open up 3-4 months out and are almost always the best value.
