Tacos, ruins & Caribbean turquoise
Mexico delivers Mayan pyramids, Day of the Dead celebrations, and the world's best street tacos, all wrapped in Pacific and Caribbean coastline. CDMX alone could fill a lifetime of trips.

CDMX is the food capital of the Americas and the most exciting city in North America right now — Roma, Condesa, Coyoacán, Polanco. Day-trip to Teotihuacán, Puebla and Tepoztlán. Five days minimum.
Mérida's colonial elegance, the cenotes around Valladolid, Chichén Itzá and Uxmal, plus the Caribbean strip — Tulum, Holbox, Cozumel. Avoid Playa del Carmen high-rise tourism.
The country's most distinct food culture (mole, tlayudas, mezcal), Day of the Dead at its most powerful, Hierve el Agua, and the Pacific surf at Puerto Escondido and Mazunte.
Quieter than the Caribbean side. Sayulita and San Pancho for surfers, Puerto Escondido for big waves, Zihuatanejo for the slow Mexican beach trip.
La Paz, Cabo, Todos Santos, the Sea of Cortez. Whale-watching January–March in Magdalena Bay, world-class deep-sea fishing, the wine country of Valle de Guadalupe near Ensenada.
| Period | Verdict |
|---|---|
| Nov–Apr | Dry season — peak prices on the Caribbean side, perfect weather everywhere; Day of the Dead Oct 31–Nov 2. |
| May–Jun | Hottest months pre-monsoon; CDMX still pleasant; Caribbean uncomfortably humid. |
| Jul–Sep | Rainy season + hurricane risk Caribbean side; CDMX gets afternoon storms but stays workable. |
| Oct | Hurricane tail end; mainland sweet spot for Oaxaca and CDMX. |
US, UK, Canadian, Australian and EU passport holders can enter Mexico for up to 180 days as a tourist on the FMM (Forma Migratoria Múltiple) issued at the airport. Six-month passport validity recommended; carry a printed onward-travel ticket — airlines now check.
Tulum and Cabo run at US prices; CDMX, Oaxaca and Mérida remain remarkable value for the food alone.
ADO long-distance buses are the safest, fastest way around mainland Mexico — Cancún–Mérida 4h, Mexico City–Oaxaca 6h. Domestic flights (Volaris, Aeroméxico, Viva) cover the long jumps cheaply if booked 3–4 weeks ahead. Rent a car for the Yucatán cenote loop and Baja; avoid driving in CDMX (use Uber or the metro). Stick to toll roads (cuotas) for inter-city.

November–April is peak — dry, sunny, warm days in the Yucatán and the Pacific coast. CDMX is good year-round; afternoon rain is common June–September but mornings stay clear. Avoid September in the Caribbean (peak hurricane season). Day of the Dead (Oct 31–Nov 2) is a cultural highlight.
