Careers · Masthead

Come write a different kind of guide.

We're twenty-four editors across eight cities, paid to go somewhere, stay in the room, and come back with something true to say. If that's the job you want, we probably have a seat for you.

— Editorial note

On being a writer here.

From the editor-in-chief, April 2026.

The internet made travel writing cheap and interchangeable. A generation of SEO-first listicles trained readers to expect the same ten tourist traps recycled in every city guide.

We started destination.com as a corrective — not a platform, a journal. Every destination covered by an editor who went. Every hotel recommended by someone who slept there. If that sounds slow, it is. Slow is the product.

We pay above industry median. We cover travel and lodging in full for every field trip. We license first publication only; the work stays yours. If that appeals, read the roles below.

— Six rules

How we work.

I.

Been there

Every guide we publish is written by a writer who has paid for the room, booked the flight, and filed notes the next morning. No exceptions.

II.

Named sources

When we tell you a hotel is worth it, you'll know the editor's name, the month they stayed, and what they paid.

III.

Independent

No hotel has ever paid us for a kind word. Editorial and commerce sit in different offices for a reason — and always will.

IV.

Slow by design

We publish four essays a week, not forty. Quality is the only lever we pull.

V.

Remote, global

The masthead is in eight cities. We meet once a quarter in person; the rest is Slack, Notion, and trust.

VI.

Ownership

Editors keep copyright on personal essays. We license first publication, nothing more.
