Pros & cons

Pros

  • The $300 travel credit + 10,000 anniversary miles ($100) already exceed the $395 annual fee
  • Priority Pass + Capital One Lounges rival Amex Platinum lounge coverage in key hubs
  • 2x on all purchases is the highest flat-rate on a premium card
  • Capital One miles transfer to 15+ airline partners at 1:1

Cons

  • Capital One Travel portal is required to unlock the highest earn rates
  • Transfer partner list is airline-heavy and hotel-light vs Amex or Chase
  • Capital One Lounge network is smaller than Centurion or Delta Sky Club footprints
  • Requires excellent credit for approval

Our take

The Venture X is the smart money's premium card in 2026. At $395 annually, it undercuts the Amex Platinum ($695) and Chase Sapphire Reserve ($550), and yet the math works out in the cardholder's favor before you swipe once — a $300 travel credit plus 10,000 anniversary miles worth roughly $100 already returns $400 against a $395 fee.

What makes it work as a full-time card, not just a fee-worth-it play, is the flat 2x on all purchases. Cashback cards give you 1.5–2% on everything; the Venture X gives you 2 miles per dollar, and those miles transfer to airline partners including Air Canada Aeroplan, Turkish Airlines, and Emirates. That is a materially better outcome than 2% cashback on any spend you would otherwise put on a flat-rate card.

The main hesitation for heavy travelers: the Capital One Lounge network is still small. If your home airport is JFK or SFO, you will be relying on Priority Pass for now. But Capital One has been aggressive on lounge expansion, and the trajectory looks like Amex Platinum-lite at half the fee. For anyone deciding between the Venture X and a $550+ premium card, the question is whether Amex or Chase's specific perks are worth an extra $155–$300 per year — and for most travelers, they are not.
