Golden temples, street food & tropical islands
Thailand delivers warm hospitality, world-renowned cuisine, and some of the planet's most photogenic beaches. Whether you're threading through Bangkok's markets or kayaking Phang Nga Bay, the Kingdom never disappoints.

The chaotic, photogenic capital plus Ayutthaya's UNESCO ruins and the floating markets of the Chao Phraya delta. Most trips start here — give it three days minimum to see the Grand Palace, the temples, and the food scene that earned Bangkok its Michelin Bib Gourmand stack.
Cooler, mountain-fringed, food-obsessed. Chiang Mai's old city walls, Doi Suthep, the Sunday Walking Street, ethical elephant sanctuaries. Allow 3–4 days; add Chiang Rai for the White Temple and Golden Triangle.
Karst cliffs, longtail boats, the most photogenic beaches. Phuket has the airport and the resorts; Krabi and Koh Yao Noi keep the scenery without the late-night strip. Driest December–March.
Opposite monsoon to the Andaman — best June–September. Samui for resorts, Phangan for Full-Moon parties and yoga retreats, Tao for some of Asia's cheapest dive certifications.
| Period | Verdict |
|---|---|
| Nov–Feb | Peak season — dry, cooler, book hotels 60+ days out and expect 50% surcharges over Christmas/NY. |
| Mar–May | Hot season — 35–40°C in Bangkok; islands still good but uncomfortable in cities. |
| Jun–Oct | Green season — afternoon storms, lowest prices, Gulf islands at their best, Andaman patchy. |
| Apr 13–15 | Songkran water festival — the country shuts and turns into a water fight; book accommodation early or skip. |
US, UK, EU, Canadian and Australian passport holders get a 60-day visa exemption on arrival, extendable by 30 days at any immigration office. Longer stays require an e-visa applied for before travel. Bring proof of onward travel and a passport with at least six months validity.
Thailand remains Southeast Asia's best value once you leave Bangkok and Phuket. Northern Thailand is meaningfully cheaper than the islands.
Domestic flights (AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Thai Lion) connect Bangkok to every region in under 90 minutes — buy 4–6 weeks ahead for $40–80 fares. Trains are slow but scenic; the overnight Bangkok–Chiang Mai sleeper is a classic. Use Grab in cities (the Uber-equivalent) and avoid metered taxis at airports. Rent a scooter on islands, never in Bangkok.

November to early March is peak — dry weather across the country, cooler temperatures in Bangkok and the north. The Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi) is driest December–March; the Gulf side (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan) is better June–September. Avoid April for the extreme heat and October for monsoon peaks.
