What's the smartest way to use public transit in Lisbon?
Buy a rechargeable Viva Viagem card at any metro station for €0.50, then load it with either a 24-hour unlimited pass (around €6.80) or credit for individual trips. The card covers the metro, buses, trams, and suburban Carris ferries, so a single tap handles almost everything. Skip Tram 28 unless you're genuinely curious about it -- it's slow, crowded, and pickpockets work it methodically. For Alfama and Graca, the 737 bus covers the same ground faster. The metro is clean and reliable but stops short of Belém, where you'll need the Carris bus 727 or 728 from Cais do Sodré. Uber is cheap enough that it makes sense for late nights or trips to LX Factory on weekends when buses run infrequently. The Aerobus from the airport is convenient but slower than the metro's Red Line, which drops you at Alameda or Oriente with a direct transfer into the city for under €2.
