How do I get from the airport to the city in Lisbon?
The Metro is the right call for most travelers. Take the Red Line (Linha Vermelha) from Aeroporto station directly to Alameda, where you transfer to the Green Line for central neighborhoods like Baixa-Chiado, or continue on the Red Line to Oriente and Marquês de Pombal depending on where you're staying. The fare is around €1.65 per trip, but you'll need to buy a reloadable Viva Viagem card for €0.50 at any ticket machine. The ride to central Lisbon takes 20 to 30 minutes. Taxis and Uber are legitimate alternatives, running roughly €15 to €25 to the center depending on traffic, and Uber tends to be cheaper and more predictable than metered cabs. Avoid the dedicated airport taxi ranks if you're cost-conscious; Uber pickup works from the arrivals level. The Aerobus (Line 1) also runs to Marquês de Pombal and Cais do Sodré for around €4, but the Metro beats it on speed and value.
