How do I get from the airport to the city in Lisbon?
The Metro is the right call for most travelers: the Red Line runs directly from Aeroporto station into the city center, reaching Alameda (where you transfer to the Green Line for Baixa/Chiado) in about 20 minutes, and Oriente in roughly 8. A single ticket costs €1.61, though you'll need a reusable Viva Viagem card (€0.50) if you don't already have one — buy both at the machines in the arrivals hall before you exit. Taxis and Ubers are straightforward if you have luggage or are heading somewhere awkward to reach by transit; expect €10–18 to central neighborhoods like Bairro Alto or Príncipe Real, more to Belém. Avoid the Aerobus shuttle — it's slower than the Metro and more expensive. The one case where a cab genuinely makes sense over the Metro is if you're staying in Alfama or somewhere on a steep hill where dragging a suitcase through connections becomes its own ordeal.
