Hyatt said Wednesday it has signed a management agreement with Indonesian developer PT Citra Buana Prakarsa to build Hyatt Regency Kapal Besar Island Resort, marking the brand's entry into the Riau Islands. The 140-key property is planned for Pulau Kapal Besar, a private island near Batam that sits roughly 50 minutes from Singapore's HarbourFront by ferry, according to Hyatt.
The travel sequence Hyatt outlined involves landing first on Nirup Island, home to the nearest immigration checkpoint, then taking a short ferry to Pulau Kapal Besar itself. That routing positions the resort as a quick island escape for travelers based in Singapore rather than a long-haul add-on to an Indonesia itinerary.

Resort plans built around lake, mangroves and family amenities
Hyatt's announcement describes a property designed around the island's existing natural features — a lake, mangrove stands and coastline — rather than built-up resort infrastructure. Planned amenities include a spa, fitness center, outdoor pools and a Camp Hyatt kids' club with both indoor and outdoor space plus an entertainment center. Hyatt is positioning the resort for a broad mix of travelers: couples on relaxation trips, families, and groups booking weddings or other celebrations.
"We are proud to welcome Hyatt to Pulau Kapal Besar as we embark on this new alliance," said Tommy Ho, Director of Business Development of PT Citra Buana Prakarsa. "The Hyatt Regency brand's global reputation for thoughtful hospitality is a natural fit for our vision of creating world-class island destinations just a short journey from Singapore. Together, we look forward to hosting travelers from around the world while creating lasting opportunities for our local community."
Part of a broader Indonesia push for Hyatt
Bastien Touzeau, Hyatt's regional vice president of growth for Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, said the company is looking forward to welcoming travelers to the new property, calling the island's setting and proximity to Singapore an attractive addition to the region's leisure lineup. Hyatt's release frames the deal as part of its ongoing expansion within Indonesia, though the company has not detailed other pending projects in the country as part of this announcement.
No construction timeline or opening date accompanied the signing. For now, the agreement establishes only that Hyatt and PT Citra Buana Prakarsa intend to develop and operate the resort together; specifics on room rates, construction milestones or a target opening will presumably follow as the project moves from planning into development.
