Amadeus study reveals guest content drives hotel demand
New research spanning 6,000 travelers and 500 hoteliers shows user-generated testimonials and real-time social engagement emerging as top priorities for hospitality marketing strategies.
A comprehensive hospitality industry study has found that guest-generated content now represents the single largest opportunity for hotels leveraging social media, according to research released by travel technology provider Amadeus.
The Travel Dreams 2026 report, which surveyed 6,000 travelers across multiple markets and consulted 500 senior hotel executives alongside destination management organizations, reveals a fundamental shift in how properties approach digital marketing. Nearly two-fifths of hoteliers identified sharing guest testimonials and user-generated content as their primary social media opportunity, marking a departure from traditional resort imagery toward authentic traveler experiences.
The findings indicate social platforms now serve dual functions for hospitality operators. Alongside content marketing, 37 percent of surveyed hoteliers recognize the channel's value for real-time guest service interactions. Properties are simultaneously exploring promotional campaigns, booking engine traffic generation, competitions, and influencer partnerships as part of evolving digital strategies.
Beyond social media trends, the research documented broader industry priorities including artificial intelligence integration throughout the travel journey, increased traveler emphasis on wellness experiences, and rising sustainability concerns despite geopolitical uncertainties. A Malaysia Tourism representative quoted in the study noted that digital platforms and travel blogs now empower independent travelers with safety information and accommodation resources, fostering confidence in solo travel.
The study's scope extended beyond traveler and hotelier perspectives to include destination marketing organizations worldwide, providing what researchers described as a 360-degree view of current hospitality dynamics. Jesus Olivares Sanchez, who leads hospitality portfolio strategy at Amadeus, characterized the project as among the company's most ambitious research initiatives, emphasizing the depth of insights generated from thousands of data points.
Industry executives now face what the report frames as both opportunity and complexity, navigating expanding data sources including online reviews, market intelligence, competitor analysis, and direct guest feedback as they refine commercial approaches.
