Eight days is the Portugal length that surfaces all four of the country's very different experiences: three nights in Lisbon (city + Sintra), two in Porto (Ribeira + port houses), one in the Douro Valley (the vineyard train + a working quinta), and two in the Algarve for beach decompression. Morning the most scenic train ride in Iberia: Porto São Bento → Pinhão (2h 30m along the terraced Douro River, sit on the right side going east). Half-day rental car or quinta shuttle to your property. Afternoon tasting at the quinta, sunset over the river.
Morning train back Pinhão → Porto (2h 30m). Short flight OPO → FAO (TAP direct, 55 min) or 6h train via Lisbon. Transfer to Lagos or a Vilamoura resort. Late afternoon at Praia da Marinha (regularly voted Europe's best beach). Sunset dinner at No Pátio in Lagos old town.
Morning kayak or SUP tour into Benagil Sea Cave (the amphitheatre with the ceiling oculus — one of the most photographed natural features in Europe). Lunch at O Caniço on the cliffs. Afternoon flight FAO → international. Late-summer travelers can add a Ponta da Piedade rock-formation boat tour before departure.

For all four regions (Lisbon, Porto, Douro, Algarve) it's the honest minimum. Ten days lets you extend the Douro to two nights (which the valley deserves) or the Algarve to three. Two weeks unlocks the Alentejo (Évora, Monsaraz) and the Azores.
