K-culture, kimchi & neon-lit nightlife
South Korea blends cutting-edge technology with ancient palaces and a food scene that rivals anywhere in Asia. Seoul's energy, Busan's beaches, and Jeju's volcanic landscapes deliver variety.

Five royal palaces (Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung), Bukchon hanok village, Hongdae and Itaewon nightlife, Gwangjang Market food, the futuristic DDP. Five days minimum and you'll still leave wanting more.
Beaches at Haeundae and Songjeong, Gamcheon Culture Village's painted houses, the fish market at Jagalchi, and the temple-by-the-sea at Yonggungsa. Connect to Tongyeong and Geoje for island-hopping.
Volcanic island with Mount Halla, lava tubes, the Olle hiking trails, black-sand beaches, and Korea's most distinct food culture. Two-night minimum; rent a car.
The 'museum without walls' — Silla-dynasty tombs, Bulguksa temple, Seokguram grotto. A worthwhile two-night stop between Seoul and Busan on the KTX.
The Demilitarized Zone day-trip from Seoul (book through licensed operators), and the temples and slow valleys of Gangwon-do — Sokcho, Seoraksan National Park, the East Sea coast.

Korea sits between Japan and Thailand on price. Seoul and Jeju run 30% above the rest; convenience-store food is excellent and sub-$5.
KTX high-speed rail covers Seoul–Busan in 2h30, Seoul–Gyeongju in 2h. Domestic flights to Jeju are cheap and frequent. Seoul's metro is one of the world's best — get a T-money card at any 7-Eleven. Use Kakao T (the local Uber) in cities. Rent a car only on Jeju.
