Mountains, maple leaves & multicultural cities
Canada stretches from the Rockies to the Maritimes with world-class cities in between. Banff's turquoise lakes, Montreal's food scene, and Vancouver's mix of ocean and mountains impress at every turn.

Banff townsite, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, the Icefields Parkway to Jasper (one of the world's great drives), Yoho's Emerald Lake. June–September for hiking; December–March for skiing Lake Louise and Sunshine Village.
Vancouver between ocean and mountains — Stanley Park, Granville Island, the Seawall. Whistler-Blackcomb for skiing or summer mountain biking. Day-trip to Vancouver Island and Tofino's surf coast.
Toronto for the food scene that punches above the city's weight, Kensington Market, the CN Tower, Ripley's Aquarium. Day-trip to Niagara Falls (the Canadian side wins) and Niagara-on-the-Lake wine country.
Montreal's bilingual food capital — Mile End bagels, Schwartz's smoked meat, Old Port. Quebec City's walled old town is the most European city in North America. Best September–October for autumn colour.
Cabot Trail in Cape Breton, Halifax seafood, Lunenburg's UNESCO old town, PEI's Anne of Green Gables and red-sand beaches, Newfoundland's icebergs and fishing villages. Best June–September.
| Period | Verdict |
|---|---|
| Jun–early Sep | Peak summer — Rockies hiking at peak, Maritimes festivals, all roads open. Book Banff/Jasper 6 months out. |
| Sep–early Oct | Best overall — autumn colours in Quebec and Ontario, Rockies golden larches, smaller crowds. |
| Dec–Mar | Ski season — Whistler, Lake Louise, Mont Tremblant. Quebec winter carnival February. Cold-weather magic. |
| Apr–May | Shoulder — mud season in the Rockies; cherry blossoms in Vancouver and Toronto early May. |
