Is it safe to walk in Santorini at night?
Walking at night in Santorini is generally safe. Violent crime is rare, locals are accustomed to tourists at all hours, and the main villages — Fira, Oia, Firostefani, Imerovigli — stay lit and populated well into the early morning during summer. The real hazards are physical, not criminal: the caldera-edge paths are narrow, poorly lit in stretches, and often slick from foot traffic, and the stairways connecting neighborhoods can be steep and uneven. Wear shoes with grip, not sandals. The clifftop path between Fira and Oia is genuinely dark past the lit sections and not recommended solo at night without a torch. The roads lack sidewalks and drivers move fast, so walking between villages along the main road after dark carries real risk. Stick to the pedestrian caldera paths in well-lit village centers, keep your phone charged, and you will have no issues.
