How do I get from the airport to the city in Santorini?
Santorini's airport (Thira/JTR) sits on the eastern edge of the island, about 6 km from Fira, the main town. A taxi to Fira runs roughly 15-20 euros and takes under 15 minutes; to Oia, budget 25-35 euros and about 25 minutes. The taxi rank is directly outside arrivals, but during peak summer months the queue can be long and drivers scarce, so book through a local transfer company in advance if you're arriving July or August. Public buses (KTEL) connect the airport to Fira's central bus station at Plateia Theotokopoulou for around 1.80 euros; they run frequently in high season but check the schedule if you're arriving late, as service thins out after 10 pm. Most hotels in Oia and Imerovigli offer private transfers for 40-60 euros that are worth it purely for the luggage handling on Santorini's narrow, cobbled streets.
