United Airlines has removed its Newark to Dubai service from the schedule through the end of the northern winter season, according to data filed with industry platforms this week. The carrier now plans to resume daily nonstop flights on , one day before the switch to summer schedules, Simple Flying reported. The route has been dark since , when the outbreak of war in Iran drove demand sharply lower.
United had previously targeted an restart, just ahead of the winter slot season. That date was scrubbed in the latest schedule update submitted to OAG and other industry systems. The delay marks the second time the carrier has pushed the return of the Emirates partnership route, which launched in as part of a broader codeshare and loyalty tie-up between the two airlines.

Emirates maintains New York service via Athens stopover
While United has suspended the nonstop, Emirates continues to serve Newark daily using a routing through Athens International Airport, Simple Flying noted. The Dubai-based carrier's one-stop service offers travelers an alternative, though with a longer block time. United's nonstop covered 5,962 nautical miles in approximately 13 hours and 15 minutes eastbound and 14 hours westbound, using the Boeing 777-300ER.
The 777-300ER is United's highest-capacity widebody for international service, seating 350 passengers across four cabins: 60 in Polaris business arranged 1-2-1, 24 in Premium Plus at 38-inch pitch, 62 in Economy Plus at 34 inches, and 204 in standard economy at 31-inch pitch. The aircraft also provides substantial belly-freight capacity, a revenue stream that can improve the economics of ultra-long-haul operations.
Second partnership route delayed as Gulf instability persists
The Newark suspension follows a similar move by Air Canada, which pushed its Toronto–Dubai flights into 2027 several weeks ago, according to Simple Flying. Both carriers fly in partnership with Emirates. United's filing notes that the target remains subject to change depending on stability in the Gulf region. The carrier launched the Newark hub to Dubai in , part of a partnership that includes reciprocal lounge access and loyalty-program benefits. Newark is United's largest transatlantic hub, and the Dubai route represented a key extension of that network into the Middle East and onward connections via Emirates to South Asia and East Africa.
