SWISS to Open Dedicated Lounge Building at Zurich Hub in 2027

SWISS has confirmed plans to open a standalone lounge facility at Zurich Airport in early 2027, a response to construction challenges posed by a major terminal redevelopment project that won't conclude until 2033.

The Lufthansa Group carrier will relocate its premium passenger lounges to a dedicated building while Dock A, the airport's largest terminal section with 33 gates serving Schengen flights, undergoes its first comprehensive renovation since opening in 1986. The project requires SWISS to shutter much of its existing lounge space for an extended period, prompting the unconventional solution of a separate lounge structure.

The new facility will house two lounges spanning approximately 2,600 square meters combined — a Business Lounge occupying more than 1,500 square meters on the second level and a Senator Lounge covering around 1,100 square meters on the third floor. Together, the spaces will provide roughly 20 percent more capacity than the airline's current Dock A lounges, which include the Business, Senator, and Alpine facilities set to close.

Originally designed as a temporary workaround, the lounge building will feature dedicated check-in and security screening. While initial plans called for busing passengers to aircraft, the airline has since established a connection to the Dock B terminal section, allowing guests to reach gates on foot. SWISS has indicated the lounges may remain operational even after the Dock A renovation concludes, suggesting the facility could serve as a long-term addition rather than a stopgap measure.

The Business and Senator lounges are scheduled to open during the first quarter of 2027, offering premium travelers an alternative space while construction continues across much of SWISS's primary European hub through the early 2030s.
