Hyatt Hotels Corporation said Hyatt Centric Sapporo opened on , bringing the company's lifestyle-focused Centric brand to Hokkaido for the first time. The hotel occupies the upper floors of a mixed-use tower in central Sapporo, positioning itself as a base for travelers who want quick access to both the city and the wider island.
Hokkaido's capital draws visitors year-round, but its profile shifts dramatically with the seasons. Hyatt describes the new property as designed around that rhythm, with "local expertise woven into the stay" so guests can track down neighborhood spots and seasonal events rather than just sightsee from a distance. The hotel sits next to the Akarenga-chosha, the red-brick former Hokkaido Government Office Building, and close enough to Odori Park that guests can walk there easily. That park hosts the city's biggest annual draws, including the Sapporo Snow Festival, the YOSAKOI Soran Festival and Sapporo Autumn Fest.

A launchpad for skiing, hot springs and seafood
Sapporo functions as the main entry point for the rest of Hokkaido, and Hyatt is leaning into that role. The company points to the island's ski resorts, hot springs, national parks and mountain scenery as reasons travelers pass through the capital before heading further afield. Winter remains the peak draw: the Sapporo Snow Festival transforms the city each year with snow sculptures, ice installations, skating rinks and snow hills, pulling in both domestic and international visitors.
Food is part of the pitch too. Hokkaido has a reputation for seafood, and the new hotel houses two restaurants built around that strength — Matsu Grill & Bar and Mr. Fish by Hyatt Centric Sapporo. Transit access backs up the location claim: Odori subway station is a few minutes away through an underground walkway, and JR Sapporo Station, the city's main rail hub, is about a 10-minute walk.
"We are thrilled to introduce the Hyatt Centric brand to Sapporo, a dynamic destination where every season reveals a new side of Hokkaido," said Yuki Takimura, general manager of Hyatt Centric Sapporo. "Placing you in the middle of the action, Hyatt Centric Sapporo is designed to be an ideal starting point for exploration. Through an insider's lens, we look forward to helping World of Hyatt members and guests discover local flavors, cultural traditions and seasonal experiences that make every stay unique."
Design draws on a 19th-century explorer
Hyatt said the guestrooms and overall design take inspiration from Takeshiro Matsuura, the explorer credited with naming Hokkaido, tying the property's aesthetic to the island's history of discovery. The opening adds to Hyatt's expansion of the Centric brand in Asia, giving the company a presence in a market that already draws heavy ski and snow-festival traffic each winter. Travelers planning a Hokkaido trip around the Sapporo Snow Festival or other seasonal events now have a new lodging option within walking distance of the city's central rail station and its best-known public park.
