American Airlines' Longest Routes Top 17 Hours on Delhi–New York Service

American Airlines will operate flights reaching 17 hours in duration on its westbound service from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, making it the carrier's longest scheduled nonstop route between August 2026 and March 2027, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium.

The carrier deploys Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners daily on the India route, with aircraft configured for 285 passengers across business, premium economy, and economy cabins. The extended block times reflect routing adjustments to navigate around multiple airspace restrictions in the region. American launched the Delhi–New York pairing in 2021, with then-Chief Revenue Officer Vasu Raja stating at the time that the expansion would give travelers "more ways to fly between the United States and India than any other airline partnership."

American's Dallas/Fort Worth hub dominates the carrier's ultra-long-haul network, accounting for seven of its 11 longest routes during the analysis period. The Texas gateway's service to Brisbane Airport clocks in at 16 hours and 40 minutes, placing second overall, while flights to Shanghai Pudong International Airport reach 15 hours and 45 minutes for third place. A forthcoming Dallas/Fort Worth–Auckland route launching in late October will match the Shanghai flight duration at 15 hours and 40 minutes, also operated with 787-9 equipment.

The concentration of extended routes through Dallas/Fort Worth underscores the hub's strategic importance for American's transpacific and trans-India operations. The carrier's fleet of long-range 787-9s provides the operational capability to serve distant markets across Asia and Oceania from its centrally located Texas base, while its New York hub captures demand for the lengthy India corridor.
