7-day Bali, Indonesia itinerary
By destination.com editorial · Published July 30, 2026
Seven days split between Ubud (culture + rice terraces) and Uluwatu (beaches + surf). Skip Seminyak/Kuta — the payoff isn't worth the traffic.
Day 1
- Land + drive to Ubud · Note
DPS to Ubud is 90 min with traffic, 60 without. Prebook a driver ($20). Ignore taxi touts at arrivals.
- Warung Biah Biah
Ubud dinner introduction. Bebek betutu (slow-cooked duck) is the order.
Day 2
- Tegalalang Rice Terraces
Get here at 7am. By 10am the swings and cafés own it and the light is gone.
- Tegenungan Waterfall
20 min south of Ubud. Steep steps down, worth it. Bring water shoes.
- Sacred Monkey Forest
The macaques will absolutely grab sunglasses, water bottles, and unattended bags. Don't feed them. Keep moving.
Day 3
- Sunrise Mt Batur trek · Transport
2am pickup from Ubud, 2-hour climb by headlamp, sunrise at the summit. Book through your hotel; go with a licensed guide only.
- Nap + spa · Note
You earned both. Every villa/hotel does massages — $15-40. Book at check-in for that afternoon.
Day 4
- Ubud market morning
Pasar Ubud. The trick is going upstairs — the ground floor is for tourists, the upper floor is real produce and prepared food.
- Neka Art Museum
The Balinese painting collection people skip. 90 minutes. Best context for the island's art traditions.
- Ubud → Uluwatu drive · Transport
2 hours. Time it against traffic — leave before 3pm or after 7pm.
Day 5
- Uluwatu Temple + Kecak dance
The 6pm Kecak dance at sunset on the cliff-edge is the shot. Get there by 5:15pm for a good seat.
- Single Fin
Sunday sunset is the surf crowd's own event. Cocktails on the deck at Suluban Beach.
Day 6
- Padang Padang or Bingin Beach
Bingin for calmer water, Padang for the crescent view. Beach warungs do a plate of nasi campur for $5.
- Karma Beach Club (day pass)
If you want a splurge day. Or find a public entry point at Nyang Nyang for free.
- El Kabron
Farewell Spanish/Mediterranean cliffside dinner. Book the deck.
Day 7
- Departure day · Note
DPS is closer to Uluwatu than to Ubud. 30-40 min. Don't cut it close — Bali traffic is the wild card.
