What's open on Sundays in Vienna?
Sunday in Vienna is far more functional than its reputation suggests. Most supermarkets are closed, but the Billa and Spar outlets inside major train stations — Wien Hauptbahnhof, Wien Mitte, and Westbahnhof — trade normal hours and cover grocery needs reliably. Bakeries and cafés operate freely; the Naschmarkt itself is closed, but the surrounding Wienzeile restaurants and coffee houses run full service. All the major museums open on Sundays, including the Kunsthistorisches Museum (10am-6pm), the Belvedere, and the Leopold Museum in the MuseumsQuartier. The Prater and its Riesenrad operate as usual. Pharmacies rotate Sunday duty coverage — check the posted rota on any closed pharmacy door for the nearest open one. Restaurants throughout the first through ninth districts maintain normal service, and brunch culture is genuinely strong; places like Café Landtmann and Café Central are fully operational. Sunday is actually one of the better days for a slow morning walk through the Innere Stadt without weekday foot traffic.
