Where is the street food in Rome actually good?
The best street food in Rome concentrates in a few reliable spots. For supplì — fried rice balls with a molten mozzarella core — go to Supplì Roma on Via San Francesco a Ripa in Trastevere, or the original on Via Natale del Grande; both run about €2.50 each. For pizza al taglio, Pizzarium in Prati (Via della Meloria 43) is the standard by which everything else gets measured: Gabriele Bonci's focaccia-style slabs change daily and are sold by weight, around €5-8 for a generous portion. Porchetta sandwiches are best tracked down at the Campo de' Fiori market on weekday mornings, where vendors sell thick cuts of herb-roasted pork stuffed into a roll for around €4. Trapizzino, with locations in Testaccio and Trastevere, serves pizza dough pockets filled with Roman stews like coda alla vaccinara; get there before 2 p.m. or the best fillings are gone. Avoid anything near the Trevi Fountain or Pantheon.
