Where can I eat after midnight in Athens?
Late-night eating in Athens is genuinely easy because the city runs on a later schedule than most of Europe. Monastiraki Square stays active well past midnight, with souvlaki spots like Thanasis and Savvas serving grilled pork and chicken skewers wrapped in pita for around 3-4 euros until the early hours. Psiri, the neighborhood just north of Monastiraki, has sit-down tavernas that keep the kitchen open until 2 or 3 a.m. on weekends. For something more substantial, the Central Market area on Athinas Street has a handful of tripe soup (patsas) places that have historically catered to night-shift workers and post-club crowds, though hours shift seasonally. Exarchia, Athens's student and counterculture neighborhood, has reliable late kebab and gyros options along Themistokleous Street. If you're in Kolonaki or Glyfada, the bar strips there always have food running alongside the drinking crowd. Avoid the tourist-facing restaurants on Adrianou Street in the Plaka after about 11 p.m. -- quality drops and prices don't.
