Pros & cons
Pros
- Hyatt points have the highest per-point value of any major hotel program (~1.7¢)
- Category 1-4 free night regularly books hotels worth $250-400/night
- Discoverist status includes free bottled water and 10% points bonus
- $95 annual fee is dramatically lower than premium hotel competitors
Cons
- Hyatt has fewer properties than Marriott or Hilton — no coverage in some destinations
- Discoverist is a low-tier status (Marriott Platinum via Bonvoy Brilliant is much more valuable)
- Second free-night threshold ($15K spend) is high for the $95 tier
- Chase 5/24 rule applies — declined if 5+ new cards in the past 24 months
Our take
The World of Hyatt card is the best hotel points card at any annual fee. Hyatt points redeem at roughly 1.7 cents each — dramatically higher than Marriott (0.85¢) or Hilton (0.5¢) — because Hyatt hotels are underpriced against their cash rates. A Category 4 property might cost 12,000 points and $400 cash; you are redeeming at 3.3 cents per point, twice what any other program delivers.
The compounding move for points-and-miles users is the Sapphire Preferred + Hyatt combo. Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer to Hyatt at 1:1, so your Sapphire earning becomes Hyatt earning at whatever card you actually use. Then the World of Hyatt card is the free-night machine and elite-status accelerator, not the daily spend card. At $95/year with an annual free night worth $200-400, it is one of the highest-ROI cards in loyalty.
The reason not to get this card is Hyatt's footprint. If you travel to destinations Hyatt does not cover well (small European cities, secondary US markets), the points are not useful. Otherwise, the World of Hyatt card is a slam-dunk keeper — one of the few cards worth carrying indefinitely for the free night alone.
