Pros & cons
Pros
- 35% points rebate on flights is uniquely valuable — turns 1M redeemed points into 1.35M effective
- 1.5x on purchases $5K+ is one of few cards rewarding large business transactions
- Total credit value ($1,300+) can offset the $695 fee for the right business
- Same Centurion Lounge access as the personal Amex Platinum
Cons
- $895 annual fee is not first-year waived (raised in 2026)
- $20K spend requirement for the welcome bonus is high — plan a large business expense
- Credits are quarterly/monthly, so unused chunks expire
- 1x on general spend is weak; you need the Ink Business Preferred or a separate card for daily use
Our take
The Amex Business Platinum is a card for serious business spend. If your business puts $100,000+ per year through card purchases, especially with large individual transactions, this card's 1.5x tier on $5K+ purchases becomes the highest-return category on any business card. Buy a $10,000 piece of equipment and earn 15,000 Membership Rewards points — worth $300+ transferred to airline partners.
The 35% points rebate on flights redeemed through the Pay With Points feature is the killer benefit no other card has. Redeem 100,000 points for a $2,000 first-class ticket, and Amex refunds 35,000 points to your account. Effectively, you paid 65,000 points for a $2,000 flight — a 3-cent-per-point redemption rate on cash-equivalent value. Nothing else does this.
This card is not for small operators. The $20,000 minimum spend to unlock the welcome bonus, the $895 fee (raised in 2026), and the coupon-book credit structure only make sense for businesses with real cash flow through the card. If your annual card spend is under $50K/year, the Ink Business Preferred is a much better ROI. If it is over $150K/year with regular large purchases, the Business Platinum is still the highest-value business card in the market — the welcome-bonus offers running up to 250K make the first year particularly lucrative.
