Grand Hyatt DFW Diner Arrested After Charging Meal to Vacant Room

A diner at the Grand Hyatt DFW's restaurant faces theft of service charges after allegedly billing her meal to a vacant hotel room and refusing to pay when confronted by staff, according to bodycam footage circulating on social media.

The incident, which reportedly occurred in August 2024, began when the woman charged approximately $66 in food and beverages to room 314 at the airport hotel. Hotel staff had already grown suspicious of the individual, who employees said had been seen on the property multiple times requesting complimentary items like water and paper despite not appearing to be a registered guest. After she spent considerable time dining and signed her check to the room number, staff verified that room 314 was unoccupied.

When confronted in the lobby and asked for alternative payment, the woman claimed her father was upstairs and would settle the bill. Airport police who responded to the call could not locate anyone matching that description, and no guest was registered under the name she provided. The woman also reportedly told officers that a bartender named David had instructed her to charge the meal to her room and promised to cover it himself if payment failed to process.

As officers prepared to arrest her for theft of service, she protested the situation's gravity. "You do not arrest someone for a $34 hamburger," she told police, according to the footage. She maintained that restaurants are required to invoice customers and provide a payment timeframe rather than pursue immediate arrest. When an officer informed her she would either pay the bill or face arrest, she responded, "Arrested for a burger?" The woman declared her intention to simply leave the airport terminal before being placed in handcuffs.

The Grand Hyatt DFW, located inside Terminal D at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, operates both dining facilities and lodging under the same roof, making room-charge schemes easier to attempt but also simpler for staff to verify in real time.
