The findings suggest Americans remain committed to end-of-summer getaways despite elevated transportation costs, with the prominence of cruise ports reflecting continued strength in the ocean-travel sector. Las Vegas and Denver also appeared on the organization's top-destinations list, both serving as access points to nearby national parks.

The Labor Day snapshot arrives alongside broader summer travel analysis from Bank of America indicating that roughly three-quarters of Americans made vacation plans during the season, representing a modest uptick from the prior year. While affluent households have historically driven the bulk of leisure-spending growth, recent payment-card data points to a narrowing of that income-based disparity.

Bank of America researchers observed in August that the gap between upper- and lower-income travel expenditure has contracted since May, suggesting middle- and lower-earning households are increasing their participation in the travel economy.
