Is it safe to walk in Milan at night?
Milan is one of the safer large cities in Europe at night, and walking after dark in the central neighborhoods — Brera, Navigli, Porta Romana, the area around Corso Como — is routine and generally trouble-free. The city has a visible police presence in tourist zones, and the streets stay reasonably active until midnight or later, which itself deters problems. The practical cautions are the same as any Italian city: stay alert on the Metro, particularly Line 2 (green) around Centrale and Loreto late at night, and watch for pickpockets in crowded aperitivo spots rather than any threat of violence. Avoid lingering around Piazzale Loreto or the streets immediately east of Centrale station after 11 pm, as those pockets attract a rougher crowd. Women walking alone report fewer issues here than in Rome or Naples. Keep your phone in your pocket rather than your hand, dress without conspicuous jewelry, and Milan at night is a genuinely pleasant place to move through on foot.
