From Gayrettepe the full trip to Sultanahmet takes around 75 minutes total. Buy an Istanbulkart at the airport machines before boarding — it works on all public transit and saves you from single-ride surcharges. Taxis are available but the metered fare to central Istanbul runs 500–700 lira depending on traffic, and the E-80 highway can double that time during rush hour. Havaş airport buses still operate to Taksim for a flat fee and are comfortable if you have heavy luggage and no transfers to make.
