Stay in the V. district (Belváros) or the VII. district (Erzsébetváros) and you'll be within walking distance of nearly everything worth seeing. Belváros sits on the Pest side of the Danube and puts you steps from the Chain Bridge, Váci utca, and the Great Market Hall, with hotel options ranging from business-grade to genuinely luxurious along the riverfront. The VII. district trades the formal grandeur for a denser, lived-in atmosphere: the old Jewish Quarter, the ruin bars along Kazinczy utca, and some of the better mid-range accommodations in the city. Budget matters here. Belváros commands a premium, often 30 to 50 percent above comparable rooms in VII. If you're under 35 and plan to be out late, VII makes more practical sense. If you want quiet mornings and easy access to Buda's hills via the bridges, Belváros earns its price. Avoid the II. district unless you have a specific reason to be there; the sightlines are beautiful but the logistics are tedious.
