Hyatt Regency Debuts in Jiaxing's South Lake District

Hyatt Hotels Corporation said Monday it has opened Hyatt Regency Jiaxing Nanhu, bringing the Hyatt Regency brand to Jiaxing for the first time. The 201-room hotel sits on the shores of South Lake, in the city's historic water town district, and follows the debut of a sister property, Hyatt Place Jiaxing Nanhu, according to Hyatt's newsroom announcement.

The two hotels together give Hyatt a layered presence in Jiaxing, pairing a full-service Regency-branded property with the more streamlined Hyatt Place option. "The opening of Hyatt Regency Jiaxing Nanhu completes our dual-project vision here, offering guests a choice between the elevated, full-service experience of Hyatt Regency hotels and the efficient, comfortable stay of Hyatt Place hotels," said Katharine Li, general manager of both hotels, in Hyatt's statement.

Steps from South Lake, an hour from Shanghai

The hotel's location puts it directly next to Nanhu Place, a lakeside complex of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues, and within walking distance of the South Lake shoreline itself. Hyatt describes the surrounding area as offering easy access to some of the region's better-known cultural sites, including the 5A-rated South Lake Scenic Area, the Yuehe Historic District — a water town quarter Hyatt says dates back 1,700 years — and Zicheng Ruins Park.

Jiaxing's position in the Yangtze River Delta means the new hotel is well positioned for multi-city itineraries. Hyatt says Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou are each roughly an hour away by car, with additional high-speed rail and air connections linking the city to the broader region. That combination of historic surroundings and metro-area access appears central to how Hyatt is positioning the property for both corporate travelers passing through the delta and leisure guests seeking a quieter water town base outside Shanghai.

Design draws on Jiangnan aesthetics

Hyatt says the hotel's interiors were built around the cultural heritage of Jiaxing and the broader Jiangnan region, a area of eastern China long associated with canal towns, classical gardens and a distinct architectural style. The company describes the design approach as blending local motifs with contemporary comfort, aiming for a lakeside retreat feel rather than a standard business hotel look. The property also offers curated routes for guests who want to explore South Lake on foot, according to Hyatt.

No additional openings in Jiaxing were announced alongside this one. For travelers planning trips to the Yangtze River Delta, the pairing of Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Place properties in the same South Lake district now gives Hyatt loyalty members a same-brand-family option for both higher-end stays and shorter, budget-conscious visits to the city.
