Alaska Airlines Launches 50th Nonstop Route From San Diego

Alaska Airlines will add seasonal service between San Diego and Loreto, Mexico, beginning December 19, making the Baja California Sur resort town the carrier's 50th nonstop destination from San Diego International Airport, the airline said Tuesday. The milestone comes as Alaska marks 40 years of flying from San Diego, a hub where it now operates more nonstop routes than any other carrier.

Alaska will be the only airline linking the two cities when flights launch in December, the company said. The route will run twice weekly—on Wednesdays and Saturdays—through April 28, 2027, aboard Embraer 175 aircraft operated by SkyWest Airlines. Tickets are on sale now.

"Launching our 50th nonstop destination from San Diego as we celebrate 40 years of serving the region is a meaningful way to thank our guests for choosing Alaska and Hawaiian and trusting us to connect them to the places they want to go," said Darren Scott, managing director of network planning at Alaska Airlines.

The carrier launched its inaugural San Diego flight on December 1, 1986. Since then, Alaska has expanded from that single route to a network that includes service—together with Hawaiian Airlines—across the United States, Mexico, and Latin America. The airline now serves all four major Hawaiian islands nonstop from San Diego and has positioned itself as the leading carrier to Mexico from the Southern California airport.

Alaska is pairing the route announcement with a guest appreciation campaign tied to its 40th anniversary. The carrier will award Gold status in its Atmos Rewards program to 40 members and give one winner 1 million Atmos Rewards points.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria welcomed the expansion, noting that "more nonstop service means more opportunities for San Diegans to travel, more visitors supporting our local economy and stronger connections with important partners like Mexico."
